===================================================================== WARRIOR LOGGING SOFTWARE SONDEX V7.03 RELEASE README FILE ===================================================================== Compatibility: --------------------------------------------------------------------- This version is compatible with Windows 2000, XP and Vista x86 (32-bit) editions only. Only USB devices are supported. Known restrictions on Windows Vista: --------------------------------------------------------------------- The Adaptec ASPI drivers, for accessing tape drives from Warrior, are not supported on Windows Vista. Please contact Sondex for availability of Vista compatible ASPI drivers. Help files use the WinHlp32 system which is not distributed with Windows Vista. Users must download and install the WinHlp32 package from Microsoft (see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=917607). Windows Vista has introduced tighter security on the file system and registry. In particular, the Program Files folder and subfolders cannot be written to by standard users. Even administrators cannot write to these folders when running programs with User Account Control (UAC) enabled as this automatically switches administrators back to standard users when running normal programs. When you try and write a file (including ini files) as a standard user to a Program Files location, the write appears to succeed. However, the file is actually redirected to a Virtual Store location C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\program_ name. There are a number of ways of changing this behaviour (search support.microsoft.com for details). The easiest is to run as an administrator and switch User Account Control off on the machine. Installation notes: --------------------------------------------------------------------- You must have administrator privileges on the system to install and configure Warrior and device drivers. Depending on the security settings of the system, you may need administrator privileges to run Warrior as well. Device drivers must be installed for the USB devices you are using. There is one driver package for Sondex devices and another for SDS devices. Sondex DRS systems include an SDS device for depth and auxiliary channels so both packages have to be installed. To access the keys (dongles), Hardlock drivers must be installed if not already present on the machine. These are available from the Sondex website or are on the installation CD. To access SCSI tape drives from Warrior (eg for writing LIS tapes), ASPI drivers must be installed on the machine (again if not already present). These are also available from the Sondex website or are on the installation CD. To print from Warrior, you should first install the Windows printer driver for the printer if there is one available. Please see the Printing Help in the Warrior Control Panel - Printer Setup for further printing tips. During installation you will be prompted to select the type of hardware in your system (unless you are upgrading an existing system). The options are: 1. Sondex DRS Systems (standard) and Memory Systems 2. Sondex DRS Systems (with STIP) and Memory Systems 3. Sondex Office Systems (no DRS) and Memory Systems It is important to select the right option to install the correct configuration files. The difference between a standard DRS system and one with a STIP panel from SDS is mainly in the depth and auxiliary channel hardware. In a standard system, depth is handled by the DIU (or equivalent inside a portable DRS system). In a system with a STIP, depth is handled by the STIP and no DIU is used. The office systems option installs the standard configuration but the DRS (wireline) services are configured not to look for any panels and run in demo mode. All options are configured to handle memory services. It's also important that the Panel Type (in Warrior Control Panel) is set according to the type of hardware in use. For Sondex standard DRS systems it should be set to SNDX, for systems with a STIP it should be set to the code written on the STIP itself, usually CPFB, CPFC or CPFD. The Panel Type setting is stored in the Warrior key (dongle). Please contact Sondex for advice if you wish to configure a system to handle both standard and STIP services. Warrior can be installed for demonstration or training without the need for a key (dongle). In this mode, there are many restrictions on functionality but it is possible to simulate a logging job and to get familiar with the software. During the installation process you will be asked if you want to install in demonstration mode. Upgrade notes: --------------------------------------------------------------------- Backup your Warrior directories before upgrading. If the operating system supports it, create a System Restore point before the upgrade. New USB drivers are required for this version. Make sure you have downloaded these from the Sondex website (or found them on the installation CD) before proceeding. The drivers can be installed before or after Warrior, but before is recommended. When upgrading from a previous V7.xx release, there are several options available: 1. Uninstall the previous version and perform a new installation. -------------------------------------------------------------- This option is recommended if you want to start again with a fresh installation. 2. Perform an upgrade over the previous version. --------------------------------------------- This is the easiest option. The Bin32 and Fax directories will be updated with all the latest files. The Data folder will remain untouched (except for the demo databases). The Config folder will be updated with the latest configuration files, but the Warrior, Services and Tools ini files will be left as they are (except for small modifications required for this release). The Format folder will be updated with any new files and the latest calibration reports (wcp files), but other files (hdg, let, bhf, prs, wtd and wwd) will not be overwritten. 3. Perform a new version installation over the previous version. ------------------------------------------------------------- This is the same as 2, except the Warrior, Services and Tools ini files will be overwritten with completely new versions. There is no real point to this option, do 1 instead. Notes for users with an MIT Service Only key: --------------------------------------------------------------------- If using an MIT Service Only key, the following procedure must be carried out before the system can be used: 1. Close all Warrior programs. 2. With Explorer, go to the Warrior\Bin32 folder. 3. Locate the file WDBase_MIT.cmd and double-click to execute it. To go back to using a Full Casedhole key: 1. Close all Warrior programs. 2. With Explorer, go to the Warrior\Bin32 folder. 3. Locate the file WDBase_CH.cmd and double-click to execute it. The install program will attempt to perform this operation for you based on any previous installation (or by prompting you during the install). Added entry to Warrior.ini [Heading] section for "DefaultBanner". If entry not there then will use Title.wlb. Can show legend for shading in log inserts Added 'repeat' mode for correlation curves. Correlation curves will only be plotted if that curve is shown, so you can show curves from main pass on top of repeat pass to easily see repeatability. Can print long jpegs. Added option to create black grid lines for a particular printer, overrides whatever grid lines were set to in log format. Some windows printers look better with black vs gray grid lines. For plotting the Gradings pattern strip from MTTpro or WIPER, make the following modifications to Warrior.ini: In the [Color Maps] section add the line nn=Gradings where nn is the next sequential number. In the [Screen] section add (all on one line): Gradings=6,{255,255,255};SOLID,{0,255,0};SOLID,{0,128,0};SOLID, {255,255,0};SOLID,{255,128,0};SOLID,{255,0,0};SOLID In each color plotter section, eg [PDF File], add (all on one line): Gradings=6,{255,255,255};SOLID,{0,255,0};SOLID,{0,128,0};SOLID, {255,255,0};SOLID,{255,128,0};SOLID,{255,0,0};SOLID In each monochrome plotter section, eg [Printrex Fanfold], add (all on one line): Gradings=6,SOLID;WHITE,SOLID;H_IGNEOUS,SOLID;LTGRAY, SOLID;MEDGRAY,SOLID;CHECKER,SOLID;SOLID - Waveform Plotting: Fix for low vdl levels - were coming out all white. - Printrex Printing: For 820RM printers, add 820RM=1 to Printrex printer section in Warrior.ini. - Plotting to Fax: Moved plot options to config dialog like other printers. Added option for Normal (100dpi) and Fine (200dpi). Default is Fine which is what it was hard coded to before.
